Curiculum Vitae

Raphael Suy was born in Ghent (Belgium) in 1934. He graduated as a
medical doctor in 1960 at the Medical School of the Catholic University of
Louvain. He was trained in general surgery in Heerlen (the Netherlands),
in vascular surgery in Louvain, and in coronary artery surgery in Milwaukee,
USA. In 1968 he became a member of the cardiovascular surgery team of
the University Hospitals of Louvain and in 1985 chairman of vascular
surgery at the same institute. In 1990 he founded the Belgian Society for
Vascular Surgery. He retired from the Medical School in 1999. His main
non-professional interests are medical philately and history.
