The book includes 154 images, 6 tables and 1,020 references, of which the majority are journal references, mainly from the post-World War II era. Some of the images may be viewed on this web-site.

The book is, in essence, predominantly concerned with the gross physical manifestations of aneurysms. The history of aneurysms is covered in three chapters: aneurysms as seen in antiquity and during the Middle Ages, from the 16th century to the mid-19th century, and from the mid-19th century to the present day. The history of aortic dissection is discussed in a separate chapter. In each chapter, changes in the relative frequency of the underlying causes – sutension, atherosclerosis and genetic disorders are all listed. Discussions on the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease are followed by the history of mch as trauma, syphilis, other infections, hyperedical and surgical treatment throughout the different periods.
